Great Beach Drive, Rainbow Beach

How to Spend Four Days in Queensland's Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is a sub-tropical, coastal town situated on the Great Beach Drive, smack-bang in the middle of World Heritage-listed K'gari (Fraser Island), UNESCO-listed Great Sandy Biosphere, UNESCO-listed Noosa Biosphere and the Pacific Ocean. If that doesn't scream nature-based icon, we don't know what does.

In addition to the incredibly big-nature experiences on offer, there are plenty of activities, cafes, and restaurants to keep you occupied for a getaway you'll be talking about forever.

Here's our guide to spending the perfect four days and three nights in Rainbow Beach.

Day One

Getting to Rainbow Beach

If you're travelling from the south, getting to Rainbow Beach is half the fun. Drive along the beach highway from Noosa to Rainbow Beach, only accessible by 4WD vehicles. The Great Beach Drive will take you from the vehicle ferry in Tewantin to Noosa North Shore, from there, follow the beach north. As you're heading north, stop to admire the coloured sands, with over 70 different hues.

If you're travelling from the Bruce Highway be sure to stop at Tin Can Bay, where you can hand-feed a rare Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin. You can stand in the water and get up close and personal with these beautiful beings under the supervision of Barnacles Dolphin Centre

Watch the sunset at Carlo Sand Blow

Carlo Sand Blow is a unique 'moonscape' sand mass that covers over 15 hectares and overlooks the towering, coloured sands, and coastline from the Inskip Peninsula to Double Island Point.
