In late 2024, the Grampians region again faced one of its toughest challenges when bushfires swept through parts of this much-loved landscape. For us and many Victorians and travellers alike, the news was heartbreaking. This iconic national park, known for its rugged peaks, cascading waterfalls and ancient rock art, holds a special part in Australia’s natural history.

But nature is resilient, and so are the communities that call the Grampians home.

Nature’s Incredible Comeback

Just months after the fires, signs of renewal began to emerge. Charred tree trunks sprouted vibrant green shoots, wattles burst back into bloom, and wildlife slowly returned to the recovering bushland. The landscape, once blackened in places in now transforming. A living reminder of how regeneration is woven into the Australian environment.

Walking through the trails today, you’ll see firsthand how the Grampians’ ecosystems are bouncing back. Native flora like eucalyptus, grass trees, and banksias thrive in post-fire conditions. Using the nutrients and sunlight released by the fires to regenerate stronger than before.

A Safe and Welcoming Destination Once Again

While parts of the park and surrounding areas were temporarily closed for safety and restoration works, all areas are now back open and ready to be explored. Parks Victoria has worked tirelessly alongside local councils and communities to ensure trails, lookouts, and campgrounds are safe for visitors.

The towns surrounding the Grampians – including our wonderful Halls Gap, as well as, Dunkeld, and Stawell – are also open for business, eager to welcome travellers back. Roads are clear, visitor centres are open, and local operators, like ourselves, have adapted to ensure a safe and memorable experience for everyone.

Why You Should Return

Support local communities– tourism is vital to the Grampians region, and by returning you’re directly supporting local businesses. From family-run cafes and boutique wineries to accomodation providers like ourselves, helping them rebuild stronger than ever.

Witness nature’s renewal– there’s something profoundly moving about seeing the Grampians in recovery. Watching the bush come back to life, hearing birdsong fill the air agai, and spotting kangaroos grazing on new growth reminds us of nature’s incredible ability to heal.

Fewer crowds, more connection– with the region still finding its rhythm post-fire, now is the perfect time to experience the Grampians’ peace and beauty at a slower pace. Ideal for hikers, photographers, and anyone looking to reconnect with the great outdoors.
