Australian Bucket List Adventures

10 must do items to add to your Australian travel bucket list.

1. Go 4WDing on K'gari

Whether on a tour of by yourself, staying at Breeze Rainbow gives you the perfect gateway for a day of exploring K'gari (formerly Fraser Island). Recognised for it's remarkable natural beauty, this World Heritage wonder is known for its evolving dunes and endless sand beaches, lush tropical rainforests and amazing freshwater lakes. It's also home to incredible natural wildlife including dingos and goannas.

While you're there take a dip in Lake Mackenzie, with its crystal clear blue waters, float down Eli Creek, visit the infamous Maheno Shipwreak and if you're lucky (between July and November) witness the magic that is the humpback whale migration.

2. Witness the Flight of the Turtles

The magic of seeing an animal take it's first steps and fly down the beach towards that vast ocean. A definite must add to the bucket list, it a special moment and must be seen to be believed. From mid January till late March these hatchlings can be seen making the dash at Mon Repos. Mon Repos hosts the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern mainland. Specifically the critically endangered loggerhead turtle, a successful season here is critical to the survival of the species.

Spend some time at the information centre to learn about the critical lifecycles and the work the team are doing to protect these species. Make sure you book your guided night tour ahead of your visit to Breeze Bargara as they book out very quickly.

3. Hike through Carnarvon Gorge

Visiting Breeze Carnarvon Gorge a day spent in the National Park will allow you to witness some of the most beautiful landscapes that Australia has to offer. Hike through the sandstone cliffs, bounce through creek crossings, enjoy the cooling feeling of the moss garden and explore First Nations rock art.

While you're here take a trip up to the Breeze look-out for an instagrammable sunrise or sunset.

4. Taste Grampians Wine

Historic and iconic is the best way to describe the hidden gem that is the Grampians wine and food industry. For over 150 years the Grampians have been producing award-winning drops. Generations of families have handed down knowledge, creating a catalogue of wines innovative yet familiar. With the help of long sunny days and cool nights you'll find unique sparkling Shiraz and vibrant Rieslings. Think light-bodied whites and spicy aromatic reds, all made the Grampians way.

Head to the Grampians Wine Cellar to enjoy a peaceful afternoon or evening sipping wine and watching the sun set over the Grampians ranges.

5. Watch the Whales Breach

Beginning in early September the Whales begin their migration through Busselton. See the humpback whales move through Geographe Bay as they make their way back to their summer feeding grounds. These acrobatic mammals are a favourite among whale watchers, they are energetics and often times you can see them playing and breaching in the water.

You may also spot a southern right whale, or the blue and minke whales. The nursery grounds around Bunker Bay and Geographe Bay are vital to the still endangered southern right whale, and numbers are slowly growing. These whales can be very curious and are known to approach vessels to interact.

6. Sandboard at Carlo Sandblow

Carlo Sandblow will leave you wonderstruck, with its moonscape landscape and sculpted terrain. From its summit you can relish in 180-degree views of Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point, Inskip Peninsula and K'gari. For some extra fun take bogie board and go for a slide down the dune.

If you are looking for adventure on another level, search for SEQ Paragliding for tandem flights from the sandblow. You'll get incredible views and pure thrill!

7. Fly Fish on the Goulburn River

Keen fisherman, this one is for you, looking for a little bit of a challenge or just simply want to catch a fish in an iconic destination. Victoria's high country is known for its captivating beauty, verdant valleys and wide open flats. We are lucky enough at Breeze Eildon to have a beautiful section of the Goulburn River flow straight through us, providing an incredible spot to throw in a line. The variations in water speed, depth and structure provides fly anglers with a range of possible scenarios, and a very rewarding visit.

As well as amazing fishing opportunities these areas of the Goulburn River offer a sense of tranquility and solitude, giving you a chance to reconnect with nature.

8. See a Platypus in the Wild

Our famous Carnarvon Gorge platypus, this guy loves to show of in the early mornings, taking a leisurely swim through Carnarvon Creek. Found nowhere else in the world, they're one of Australia's most iconic native animals. Once thriving across much of eastern Australia, they are now facing localised extinction, climate change-induced events, habitat destruction, landclearing and fragmentation are all threatening this species. Which makes our guy even more special, unique and vital to protect.

Make sure you stay nice and quiet on those early mornings and you'll get the chance to spend some time with him.

9. Take a First Nations Led Tour in the Northern Territory

There is no better way to experience the Territory than with those whose culture and understanding span 10's of thousands of years. Katherine is an important meeting place for the Jawoyn, Dagoman and Wardaman Aboriginal peoples. A place where they would converge, you can see ancient rock art, engage in festivals, crafts and culture practiced by the First Nations people of Katherine.

Locals will take you on guided tours learning about bush medicines, bush tucker, visiting the community art centre. Share country in Nitmiluk National Park, with the Jawoyn peoples, cruise through the abundant water ways, witness the breathtaking views, and immerse yourself in their incredible cutlure.
